Study into the strength of minesweepers during lifting and transporting operations

Context

Lifting and transporting (Brest-Abu Dhabi) of Tripartite-class minesweepers (CMT) via a large capacity merchant vessel.

DCN built minesweepers for 3 nations, including France, back in the seventies. They are made of glass composite and weigh ~650T.

There is a need to check the resistance and buckling strength of the hull and internal structures during these operations.

realization

Realisation of the 3D FE modelling of a CMT from a bundle of paper plans.

Simulation and taking into account of losses in the composite’s mechanical properties with age.

Analysis and modelling of the dynamic loads in lifting and transporting operations.

Suggested improvements to the cradles and supporting surfaces on the keel and sides of the CMT.
